Mangrove Web Operates as B Corporation to Serve Purpose-Driven Companies
Mangrove Web, a partner of L+R, is a woman-owned website design and development company that builds high-impact custom websites. When Maiya Holliday, founder, and CEO, started the company 12 years ago, she was already focused on making a positive impact on the world through her company. Holliday made that goal even more concrete in 2016 when Mangrove Web became a Certified B Corp.
“The B Corp Certification does a good job of measuring impact and holding companies accountable for their actions,” Holliday explained. “It assesses a company’s internal and external processes, supply chain, and partnerships through a lens of social and environmental impact. It resonated with what we were already trying to do, and it seemed like a good way to solidify our purpose-driven approach. A friend described it as creating guardrails to help you become more progressive as you grow.”
Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
“It fits well with our team’s passion of enabling environmentally conscious, social justice-oriented and purpose-driven companies to grow, compete and thrive online,” Holliday said. Mangrove Web, which now employs a diverse team of 15 individuals, formalized and rethought many of its processes and procedures during its B Corp application process.

“The process brought to light some things I hadn’t thought of before,” Holliday said. “For example, I had never really thought about where we were doing our banking. As a result of the process, we moved our business’ money to (fellow BCorp) Beneficial State Bank, a bank that invests in progressive community programs.
In addition, Mangrove Web became more deliberate about its hiring processes. “We are being more thoughtful about how we find and hire a diverse talent base,” Holliday said. “We consider where we post our openings and give ourselves more time to find those new hires who share our vision as a company and want to be part of a diverse team.”
