Meta has announced a suite of updates and tools aimed at equipping mobile developers with the resources and support necessary to expand into spatial computing. Central to this initiative is Media View, an open-source spatial application for Meta Quest developed in collaboration with L+R, which offers a hands-on exploration of immersive media formats and the Meta Spatial SDK.

The newly introduced Billing Compatibility SDK simplifies app monetization, enabling transactions for in-app purchases and subscriptions in 2D Android and Meta Spatial SDK apps. Developers already using the Google Play Billing Library can now port their apps to the Meta Horizon Store with minimal changes, unlocking new opportunities for monetization and audience engagement.

Meta has also introduced enhancements to System WebView, improving stability, performance, and browser efficiency for apps displaying web content. These updates ensure smoother app experiences while reducing resource demands. Additionally, expanded support for OAuth 2.0 strengthens authentication processes, improving security for both developers and users.

Media View exemplifies the possibilities of spatial applications, allowing developers to experiment with various media types, including 2D, 360°, panoramas, spatial, and 3D content. Built with the Meta Spatial SDK, it demonstrates features such as immersive 360° views, multi-panel displays, and dynamic media interactions. By making Media View open-source and available on GitHub, Meta and L+R provide a practical resource for developers curious about the potential of spatial computing.
