Today, Alex Queudot, L+R engineer, took the stage at Meta Connect 2024 to share insights on the panel titled “Real-world applications of Meta Spatial App Framework” The session featured leading developers from mobile and XR backgrounds sharing their experiences with implementing future-thinking projects.
Alex shared L+R’s experience in integrating the Meta Spatial SDK for the development of Media View, an open-source spatial application, by detailing both the challenges and successes encountered during the project. While L+R has been exploring spatial computing since 2017, this project marked the first time they handled 100% of the development in-house, without relying on specialized XR developers. This unique situation provided new insights into both the design and development processes, allowing the team to apply human-centered design principles while also fully leveraging the SDK’s capabilities.
The team tackled several design and technical challenges, leveraging their expertise in mobile app development to integrate mixed reality elements while maintaining alignment with broader design principles. Their experience as an award-winning digital team, known for creating applications used by millions globally, enabled them to empathize with digital product teams within large organizations that may be considering the Meta Spatial SDK to bring their applications to the Quest. This helped guide the development of a product that balances technical sophistication with intuitive user experiences, particularly for XR and spatial computing hardware, ensuring that the solution effectively meets both user and organizational needs.
During the discussion, Alex and fellow panelists offered valuable guidance for digital product teams who are new to the Meta Spatial SDK, breaking down the development process and offering actionable steps for turning XR concepts into reality. His contributions reinforced L+R’s reputation for driving innovation in spatial computing, showcasing the company’s forward-thinking approach to leveraging emerging technologies in the XR field.
