An open-source spatial media viewer to enhance immersive content experiences on Meta Quest
Launched at Meta Connect 2024
First-of-its-kind open source application
Challenge
Meta approached L+R ahead of the launch of their Spatial SDK, seeking an application that would inspire mobile developers to build for Meta Quest. The goal was to showcase the SDK’s potential while encouraging widespread adoption of spatial computing on the platform.
Solution
L+R developed Media View, a mixed-reality application exclusively for Meta Quest. Designed and built in-house, the app provided an immersive experience that leveraged spatial computing. In alignment with Meta’s open ecosystem strategy, L+R made Media View open-source, providing documentation to support developers & digital product teams in building their own spatial apps.
Outcome
Media View launched alongside Meta’s Spatial SDK at Meta Connect 2024, reaching a global audience. The app demonstrated the SDK’s capabilities, sparking interest from those new and experienced in XR applications. L+R also participated in panel discussions, sharing their expertise in spatial computing.
Impact
L+R’s contribution supported Meta Quest's position in spatial computing, with Media View serving as a model for design and development teams creating future applications. By providing access to the app’s source code, mobile developers can explore new possibilities, aligning with Meta’s vision of advancing spatial technology.
